Living Art Marine Center

Living Art Marine Center Field Trip

W is for Whale (Apr 21-25)

W is for Whale
This week was all about Jonah and the whale, the letter W and things that live in the water. We memorized Jonah 4:2 and took a field trip to Living Art Marine Center in Honolulu. It was great to explore the different animals that live in the ocean. We learned from Jonah’s experience that it is better to be obedient to God (and our parents) than suffer the consequences.

For Pre-k skills we of course practiced writing W and learned the letter sound and talked about words that began with the sound. We water color painted and we also water painted letter review. We had water play and learned how to measure it. We made tissue box whales for our running spouts, I mean snouts. J

King is for King -- Happy Resurrection!

K is for King
The Lord is enthroned as King forever. Psalms 29:10

Jesus is our King! As resurrection approaches this weekend we spent the week talking about Jesus’ death and resurrection. We memorized Psalms 29:10, and repeatedly talked about how Jesus is ALIVE! We made crowns to wear for King Jesus’ celebration of his resurrection. We made him a shape castle. We built him a block castle and we sang praises to him and rejoiced because he is ALIVE.

The letter K was our focus this week since Jesus is KING. We played in shaving cream and practiced writing K. We made a K collage and did some K stamping. We read books about King Solomon and King Jesus and a silly King who wished for oobleck. We learned about rhymes, made number posters, and did some beginning reader sorting. April is safety month so we learned how important it is to wear our seatbelt, so we went on a pretend trip to the park in our school bus. J

Happy Resurrection!

Hawaii's Plantation Village Field Trip

This week was brought to you by the letter G (growing, garden, good and God).

To close out our week about the letter G and God’s creation we visited Hawaii’s Plantation Village. We got a chance to go back in time and see the simplicity of God’s people (created on day 6) during that time. The parents and I thought about how different life would be today if we went back to keeping things simple. We learned about the land and culture. We saw many different trees, and plants created by God on day 3. Then we fed fish created on day 5. We loved the malasada game but couldn’t figure out why someone would want to throw food. But it was fun anyway! All in all we got to see God’s creation at HPV first hand from the beautiful homes built by man to all the trees and vegetation. It’s a small place to visit but full of culture and history.
